Street food

Maltose candy I believe.

Various kebabs, of chicken wings, cuttlefish, and so forth. Also the stand to the right is selling smelly tofu, a delicacy and probably an acquired taste. (I had one once, and it wasn't half bad.)

This I bought a skewer of. The balls are crabapples coated with maltose. Crabapples are sour and not a desirable fruit, but here the sugar nicely counters the tart taste. It was only 4 yuan a stick. The other skewers are of more conventional fruit like honeydew melon, kiwifruit, and mandarin also coated with maltose.

More skewer food. They are popular in China to eat on the run.

This stall sells roujiamo, the Chinese equivalent of a wrap or flatbread burger.

A shop selling sweet cakes containing rose flavoured bean paste.

A shopfront selling takeaway meals.

Bubble teas and shaved ice with sweetened beans and corn kernels are offered here.

More smelly tofu, kebabs, and grilled cuttlefish.

These people were lining up to buy barbecued meats: duck, pork, etc.

It must be a famous establishment to attract such a queue. (A reader tells me that it's several hundred years old, from the inscription under the eaves.)
